Categories of Performances

 
Acrobat
Acrobat is a performance that requires at least 2 performers moving around, creating beautiful patterns that are both strong and smooth. The acrobats need to have high level of flexibility and gymnastic skills.
 
Balance
The performer needs to balance his/her body while also balancing other props that may vary in weight, size or type. The performance with bigger size and more quantity of the props creates more interest from the audience, so balancing the challenging props with the performer’s limitation is the key to a good performance.
 
Balloon
The art of balloon is to turn, twist and shape balloons into figures such as animals, flowers, hats, or swords etc. The performers are capable of using just a balloon to capture the audience’s hearts.
 
Clown
Clown has been around for over 1,000 years in Europe. With colourful cloths and make up, the clown’s goal is to master the technique of creating funny, yet impressive tricks for the audience.
 
Comedy
Comedy is a performance that relies mostly on making the audience laughs and smiles. There are many kinds of comedy, and there is no language barrier; e.g. none-dialogue form of comedy such as mime. Comedy is always the highlight of street shows.
 
Dance
In general, mime is part of dance performance but ‘dance’ in street performance usually add the bizarre and the unexpected into the show.
 
Diabolo
A form of juggling, diabolo involves the use of tops being balance by ropes. Some performers might use 2 or more tops switching from one hand to another.
 
Happening
With performers coming out of every corners of the street, getting everyone and everything on the street involved, the Happening is a show of its kind. Always entertaining and different, the happening is the show that audience can’t wait to see the next show.
 
Juggling
Juggling is a showcase of the performers’ skills in moving objects such as bowling pins, balls, swords, touches, and hoops. Other than throwing the objects in the air, there are also moves such as making the objects bounce of the surface and throwing objects in pair. Juggling is a plain but full of beauty and attractiveness show.
 
Magic
Street magic is different from staged magic because there is no curtains, lighting, and the stage to help hiding props and equipments needed to perform tricks. This makes street magic more challenging to perform and harder to perfect but its openness and transparency makes it more intriguing to the audience.
 
Music
Music is very popular in street performance in Japan. This kind of street performance is everywhere on the streets both above and underground in Shizuoka. In ‘Street Performance World Cup’, the performers don’t just play music but the show is also designed to be funny, fresh, and has interesting storyline.
 
Pantomime
Pantomine is a performance but does not require dialogue but the messages are expressed through body movements and creating invincible objects such as a wall, stair, and door etc. The name derived from pantomimos, which in Greece means ‘one who imitate all’.
 
Puppet

Stilt
Stilt is a performance where performances walk on tall walking sticks. The sticks’ length may be anywhere from 30 cm. to meter lone, and sometimes even longer. Trapeze
Trapeze is a performance involving with ropes or bars hanging from ceiling, where the performers acrobatically move from one rope of bar to the next. The audience will be indulged with performance of perfectly calculated movements meters above the ground.
 
Unicycle
Unicycle is one-wheeled cycling while performing juggling and acrobat at the same time. Some performers even use 4.5 meters tall unicycle!
 
Others
Some of the performances involve more than
just one type of performance, while some are just
impossible to be categorized. These performers
are truly original.
